Turn up the HEAT

We've all heard the age-old saying that THE way to a MAN's Heart
is through his stomach.
As you plan your wedding, it might become too easy to stress out about the details.
Make sure you take some time to remember--to revel--in the reasons you fell in love in the first place.
So, why not TURN IT UP when you're turning on the oven?

{Music, records}
First, for a little soft music.
Pick your favorites. Put your iPod on shuffle.
Classical is always a good "go-to" genre but any music played softly takes up that "empty-space-feeling" and makes for a comfortable talking atmosphere.

{Set the Table}
Use Candlelight: The softer, lower the light increases ambiance and moods. Also, it sharpens other senses (taste, smell) and leads to closeness.

{Vintage Apron Patterns}
A cute apron never hurts ;)

{Spread...the love}
Wine, cheese and chocolate never hurt, either.

Probably, one of the sweetest tips we have is to attempt to make one of the dishes your caterers are serving at your wedding. This adds a bit of adventure to making a dish you already know you love. With so many great online blogs, free recipe web sites, you can find most anything.

{Lemon Chicken Piccata
YUM! Have fun! and as always...

Military Weddings: US Military Traditions, Tips and Advice

Here in Port Gamble, located only a few miles from three military bases, we are lucky enough to see beautiful, traditional military weddings every so often.
There is something so stunning about seeing a Bride and Groom exiting St. Paul's Church under an archway of un-sheathed swords, glinting in the summer sunshine.
Time just seems to stop.

So, if you are planning a military wedding, here are a few traditions you should know:
  • If the woman is in the service, she may wear either her white wedding dress or her dress uniform. If the Groom is in the service it is customary for him to wear his dress uniform with any medals taking the place of boutonnieres.
  • Navy and Coast Guard members also wear white gloves and carry swords while Army and Marine Corps members carry sabers.
  • "Arch of Swords" (Navy) or "Arch of Sabers" (Army) is the term used for commissioned officers, while non-commissioned officers use the term "Arch of Rifles" obviously distinguished by the ceremonial weapon used in the display for the couple exiting the chapel.
  • It is tradition to use the sword or saber in the cake-cutting.

Spotlight on: Spring in Port Gamble

Welcome Springtime

Here in Port Gamble, the fresh green stalks of the tulips are already rising up from our garden beds! What a great indication that Springtime is right around the corner. The swatches of yellows, reds and pinks will soon be decorating our walks through town and *fingers crossed* the breeze will soon be warm and light.

Come hike, bike or run our trails, paddle a Kayak in the bay, grab an ice cream or pack a picnic to enjoy with your family. Out here, we love the outdoors and hope you will join us in shaking of that Winter hibernation and embracing our longer days of sunshine.

From all of us here in Port Gamble,

Here's to "Spring"ing forward!
