registering

When it comes to registering there are no real rules. I know that Martha and the Knot will tell you otherwise but since not everyone has the same needs, not everyone can follow the same rules. However, there are guidelines that can make things easier on you (if you’re feeling overwhelmed).

            If you and your future spouse are already residing together chances are good that you have already acquired the basics and have a pretty good idea of your style. And depending on your age and whether or not this is a first (or second, or third) marriage you may already have really nice stuff. If you don’t really need any traditional registry items consider having donations made to a charity in lieu of gifts, or if you aren't feeling quite so generous you could also have a honeymoon registry.

            In my humble opinion I think you should match trendiness with price, i.e. the more expensive, the less trendy. Things like china, flatware, glassware…these should be more timeless pieces because over the years you are going to change your tastes and you want these things to stand the test of time. Personally, I think a muted color with interesting textural or shape details and minimal to no pattern is ideal.

      The early bird gets the worm – or the early registrar gets gifts they actually want. Just accept the fact that people are going to want to buy you gifts. It isn’t presumptuous it’s just the way it is. So please, for the love of all things, register and do it early. There is nothing quite as frustrating as hearing someone you love is getting married only to find out they haven’t registered or aren’t registering. I don’t know what you have, what you need and I don’t want to waste my money on something you won’t like. Help your guests and yourself by registering early.
           Include your spouse to be, after all you will be sharing a place together and it’s best that you both like everything. Maybe they absolutely don’t care or love your style and trust you but more often than not there is going to be some compromising. Remember, your single years are the years for leopard print china and hot pink throw pillows, fortunately same goes for his stuff.

Wedding Music

As I'm typing this, the Bright Eyes song just came on Pandora!

Music is a tricky thing, you want something meaningful, something classic, something fun and something unique.

I have been working on this post for months because I couldn't figure out how to narrow down all the songs that I love.

In the end I just picked my current favorites and decided to turn the "Wedding Music" portion of this blog into an ongoing project so that I can continue to add as I discover and rediscover what I deem great wedding music. Hope you enjoy--

Testimonial

"Between the history, beauty, location and the amazing vistas alone make Port Gamble the finest venue. Hands down the most personal and care for feeling when working with staff, as if they were your own family. A truly blissful experience, and feeling the power of adding to the history after the marriage is an added bonus, as Port Gamble continues to thrive in the hearts and minds of many people, new and old. Port Gamble is definitely where we wanted to have our life-long memories." -- 2011 Bride + Groom

Lighting Love

{letter lights}
Last night two of my co-workers attended a meeting that discusses current and upcoming wedding trends.
Unfortunately, due to a previous commitment I was not able to make it but I did get to hear about it and word on the street is that lighting is the thing to focus on. The right lighting can majorly impact the ambiance and mood of your wedding and simple changes can take the evening from romantic dinner to disco dance party. Here are a few of my favorite lighting options.
